Established in 1953, the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club currently pursues an active range of programs and activities to support the children of our community.  To do this, we partner with four of the premiere charitable organizations in our area, namely United Community Ministries (UCM), Good Shepherd Housing, New Hope Housing, and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services.  We sponsor Key Clubs at four high schools, Mount Vernon High School, West Potomac High School, Hayfield Secondary, and South County Secondary.  We also sponsor the K-Kids Club at Stratford Landing Elementary and the CKI Club at NOVA Community College, Alexandria Campus.  We buy and distribute books to the pre-kinder Head Start classes at Gum Springs three times a year. We will add INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital's daycare facility this year.

We provide karaoke to the boys and girls at Sacramento and Creekside Neighborhood Centers, and both karaoke and bingo games to the clients of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services.  We have sent kids from both Neighborhood Centers to Fairfax County summer camp programs, to the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and to the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly.  We collect food at the Hollin Hall Safeway for UCM's Food Pantry, and we sell Xmas trees at  Belle View Shopping Center to raise funds for all our community service projects.  We do more than this (ask us about our disabled Boy Scouts troop or ESL and computer training classes), but you get the idea.

If you would like to learn more about us and how you can help us help others, then please call Bruce or Joanne Malkin at 703-360-7725 or send us an e-mail by using the Email Webmaster link on this page.   Look at our postings on our wall on Facebook, too.  We could really use your help, and you can do as much or as little as your time and preferences allow.  See you soon!
